高1国際学級の生徒が第3回アメリカボウル大会に参加しました
10月28日（土）、高校1年の国際学級の生徒3名が、港区赤坂区民センターにて行われた一般社団法人日米協会主催の第3回アメリカボウル大会に参加しました。
この大会は、一般社団法人日米協会が2017 年に創立 100 周年記念事業の一つとして始めたもので、日本の高校生が英語を通してアメリカに関心を持ち、日米関係についての理解を深め、将来よりよい日米関係を築く担い手になることを期待して開催されています。大会では、アメリカの歴史・文化・芸術・地理・政治・経済・社会・科学・日米関係などについて、英語での質問やゲームを通して競い合います。
今年の第 3 回大会はコロナ禍で4年ぶりの開催でしたが、東京・神奈川・埼玉・千葉・愛知・長野・新潟・岡山・高知・鹿児島から40校、総勢117名の高校生が参加しました。大会では、アメリカの文化、歴史、地理などについてのクイズが出題されて各校が競い合い、決勝戦に進んだ上位3校には、外務省KAKEHASHIプロジェクトの予算により短期米国研修旅行が贈呈されます。
本校からは今回が初めての参加で、残念ながら決勝進出はかないませんでした。ですが、本校の国際学級を卒業した先輩に出会い、他校の生徒たちとも交流を深め、高円宮殿下がご臨席なさって参加生徒一人一人とお言葉を交わしてくださるなど、生徒たちは大いに刺激を受ける機会となりました。
【生徒の感想】
私はこのような機会に今まで触れることがなかったので、友人に誘われて参加できたことがとても嬉しかったです。事前に皆で地図を見て、今年の夏に訪れたマサチューセッツ州について話をしたり、州ごとの有名なものなどについて新たに知ることができて、参加前から有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。予選は難しい問題が多く、単に歴史や地図の問題だけでなく、車種や服装などに関しての問題も出題され、幅広く色々なことへの知識を深めることの重要性を実感しました。決勝戦では英語のレベルも問題の難易度も上がり、私には分からない問題が多かったのに、決勝に進出している人たちはすぐに答えていて、同じ高校生として尊敬の念を抱きました。さらにクイズだけでなく、参加している他校の高校生と交流できるビンゴも用意されていて、アメリカへの教養が深まるだけでなく、新たな交友関係を築く場が設けられていて、貴重な時間を過ごすことができました。友人たちとも楽しく協力しあってイベントに参加できて本当に素敵な時間となったので、是非とも来年も参加したいです。また今後もこのような機会を見つけて積極的に参加し、様々なことを学んでいきたいと思います。（S.I.）
Unfortunately, we did not make it to the finals, but more than anything else, this event was definitely a good experience for the three of us who are in the International Class. I appreciate being given an opportunity like this. It was interesting to talk and compete with other people who have the same interests as us. We made friends from other schools, too. There were some questions which were related to the things we learned during BLAST and we were excited! As expected, the final was high-level, stimulating and worth watching. We were overwhelmed by their passion. Also, through this event, I thought it is important to actively incorporate opportunities to look at the world. We would like to participate in this event next year, too. I will read news articles from all over the world and pay attention to little things in everyday life so that we will be able to get a better result the next time. （H.M.）
Through my experiences from BLAST, I got interested in America and while browsing information online I found the America Bowl. We were the first team from TJK to join this event, so I had to start from forming my team and asking the school for permission to participate. After our entry was received, we often gathered during little breaks and read books I borrowed from the library, talking about which facts would be on the quizzes. I feel that these experiences will contribute to my confidence in overcoming obstacles and cooperating with my friends in the future. I hope that we will be able to participate in America Bowl next year, too! （S.S.）
